French SMEs to continue their training and capacity building phase

The 16 selected SMEs in France will attend their third training and matchmaking event in Paris on 16 May, organised and hosted by L’Institut Paris Region

After the first two events back in March 2022, the selection of SMEs categorised as travel agencies, tour operators and short- and long-term accommodations will continue their journey in increasing their knowledge about and implementing certain good environmental management principles. This particular event on 16 May will also see the first French matchmaking event.

The very focus of the training session in the morning will be decarbonisation of travel. While sounding as a difficult challenge, the programme and the trainers will cover all the imporrtant aspects of it. The training will look at two aspects of decarbonisation – air travel and its short-term and medium-term perspectives and carbon offsetting and its implementation conditions and limits. As a passive way of tackling the carbon footprint of travels, responsible tourism would be discussed and its diversity and how to develop such offers. The morning will also see testimonials from travel companies who have already been through this mindset change. Interventions are expected from companies like Discovery Trains, La Route des Voyages, Odysway, Revlys and Shanti Travel. Masterclasses would finish the morning programme with one on setting up companies in Paris Region and one on the interactive tool of the Paris Region Institute on sustainable tourism.

Right after the lunch break, the matchmaking event will imply individual meetings based on previously agreed face-to-face discussions. The participants will be able to meet travel and accommodation companies from the project countries (Cyprus, Spain, France and Italy), as well as other French travel and accommodation companies, research and consultancy firms, economic development agency, etc. Registrations are still possible through the matchmaking platform. The event is open to all international SMEs of the TOURISME project coming from Cyprus, Spain, and Italy with the aim of meeting up and exchanging contacts and experiences. Topics covered will be particularly relevant for travel agencies to support knowledge exchange on how to develop sustainable offerings for their customers.

The long day will end with urban walks reserved for TOURISME project companies and stakeholders.
